We arrived in Redington Shores Florida on Sunday for an extended stay at an AirBnB on the intercostal waterway.
The first stop in our "decompression tour" to let go of work life and figure out this thing called retirement. I thought we would need a few weeks to settle in and figure things out; turns out we only needed the drive here. It reminds me of going to the house at the Cove from DC. We would leave the city and trek over the seven bridges we crossed to Chincoteague Bay and by the time we were there we would have let the city go and be in full on weekend mode. Well we are in full on retirement mode. We get up when we want, go to bed when we want, and do whatever we want in between. My favorite part is never feeling rushed. Never having to cut our morning walk short because we got up late or have an early meeting. Never having to wolf down some fast, bad food because we only have a half hour until the next commitment.
We are eating better, spending less money, exercising more, and just generally happier. Retirement is awesome!
That being said, there are challenges. Remembering where everything is packed is big - its must have taken 10 trips back and forth to the Beast (that huge duffle bag we have) to get everything we wanted into the house. Now that we're unpacked it's ok and Scott can actually find things without having to ask me but I think we are going to need awhile once we're actually on the road to figure out our packing/unpacking strategy.
But that's still to come. For now, we are enjoying the sun, the water, the wildlife, and the relaxation.
And of course Cadeau is loving life!
